English is commonly spoken in Brussels and in tourist-facing businesses across the country. In Flanders it is often widely understood, while in Wallonia it may be less common outside tourist areas, so basic French can be helpful there.

Mobile Network: Mobile coverage is generally good in cities, towns, and along rail corridors. 4G is widespread and 5G is available in many urban areas, though speeds and indoor coverage can vary by operator and building type.

Roaming/SIM/eSIM: For short visits, EU roaming is usually the easiest option if your home plan includes Belgium at no extra cost. For non-EU travelers, an eSIM is often the quickest setup and can be good value for data. A local SIM can be worthwhile for longer stays or heavy data use, but registration and shop opening hours may make it less convenient than eSIMs for a short trip.

Card acceptance is very common in hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, and transport machines, especially with contactless cards. Small independent shops, market stalls, and some bars may still prefer cash or set minimum card amounts, so carrying a small amount of euros is useful.

Tipping is modest by international standards because service is usually included in prices. In restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving a small extra amount for good service is appreciated but not required. In cafes and bars, people often round up. Taxi fares are commonly rounded up as well.
