English is commonly spoken in tourist areas, major cities, and by younger people working in hospitality. German and Italian are also fairly common in some coastal regions.

Mobile Network: Mobile coverage is generally good in cities, towns, and along main travel routes. Coastal and island coverage is usually solid, but speeds and signal can be weaker in remote islands, mountains, and some national park areas.

Roaming/SIM/eSIM: If you are visiting from another EU or EEA country, roaming is commonly the easiest option because domestic allowances often work in Croatia at no extra basic charge, subject to your provider rules. For non EU visitors, a local SIM can be good value for longer stays and heavier data use. An eSIM is often the most convenient choice if your phone supports it, especially for short trips because you can activate data before arrival and avoid finding a shop. Roaming is simplest, local SIM is usually cheapest for extended stays, and eSIM is often the best balance for short stays and easy setup.

Card acceptance is widespread in cities, hotels, supermarkets, fuel stations, and many restaurants. In smaller cafes, markets, island businesses, and some private apartments, cash is still useful, especially outside peak tourist areas.

Tipping is appreciated but not as automatic as in some countries. In cafes and casual restaurants, rounding up or leaving about 5 to 10 percent for good service is common. In higher end restaurants, around 10 percent is typical if service was good and not already included. Small tips are also appreciated for taxi drivers, hotel staff, and guides, but they are not usually mandatory.
