    Does eSIM Support 5G?

Yes — the eSIM is not the limiting factor. Whether you actually get 5G depends on your phone, the plan and whether there is 5G where you are standing

An eSIM profile carries no speed limit of its own. It authorises you onto a network, and if that network offers 5G, your phone supports it and the plan permits it, that is what you will connect to.

    The Three Conditions

    1. Your phone supports 5G — and 5G on the frequency bands the local operator uses, which is why some phones show 5G at home and 4G abroad
    2. The plan includes 5G — most current plans do, and it is stated on the plan
    3. There is 5G coverage where you are, which even in well-served countries means city centres far more than countryside

Missing any one of them leaves you on 4G. That is not a fault, and for almost everything a traveller does — maps, messaging, video calls, streaming — 4G is entirely sufficient.

    If 5G Does Not Appear

    • Check that 5G is enabled for the travel eSIM line specifically, not just for the phone — on an iPhone this lives under Mobile Data › Mobile Data Options › Voice & Data
    • Restart the phone, or toggle flight mode, so it re-scans
    • Move — 5G coverage is patchier than 4G, and one street can make the difference

5G uses noticeably more battery and can burn through a data allowance faster, simply because everything downloads quicker. On a fixed-size plan, staying on 4G for the trip is a reasonable choice rather than a compromise
