Settings › Network & internet › SIMs › Add eSIM, then scan the QR code from your confirmation — the wording differs by manufacturer, but the flow is the same everywhere
Android puts this menu in different places depending on who made the phone. If the path below does not match yours, search the settings for SIM or eSIM and you will land on the right screen.
Pixel and Stock Android
- Settings › Network & internet
- Tap SIMs, then + or Add eSIM
- Choose to scan a QR code
Samsung Galaxy
- Settings › Connections
- Tap SIM manager
- Tap Add eSIM, then scan
Then, on Any Android
- Connect to Wi-Fi first — the download needs an internet connection
- Scan the QR code from your confirmation eMail
- Confirm the download and wait for it to finish
- Name the line something you will recognise
- Set mobile data to the travel eSIM, and leave calls and SMS on your home line
- Turn roaming on for the travel line and off for the home line
The QR code has to be scanned by the phone the eSIM is for, so open the eMail on a laptop or print it. If you only have the one phone, install by hand instead — see What is Manual Installation, and When do I Need It?
If the menu offers no way to add an eSIM at all, the phone either lacks the chip or is locked to an operator. Dial *#06#: no EID means no eSIM support, whatever the model name says.
Switch the travel line off until you arrive. Installing does not start the plan, and leaving it off avoids any chance of an early connection
