This is the single most useful habit around travel eSIMs. Installation needs an internet connection and a couple of calm minutes, and both are easier to find at home than in an airport.
Why Early Is Free
- The validity period starts when you connect at the destination, not when you install
- An installed eSIM that is switched off uses nothing and costs nothing
- Days spent waiting at home are not deducted from anything
Why Early Is Safer
- You find out at home if the phone is locked or incompatible, while support can still help
- You are not depending on airport Wi-Fi
- You are not doing settings menus with a boarding call in the background
- You land with the connection already prepared
Install early, but leave the travel line switched off until you land. There is no harm in it being on, but off removes any possibility of the phone connecting somewhere unintended.
Can It Be Done on Arrival?
Yes, if you have Wi-Fi. Airports, hotels and cafés nearly always have some. It is simply the least comfortable version of a job that takes two minutes anywhere else.
