Should I Choose a Time-Based, Unlimited, Regional or Global Plan?

Two questions settle it: how many countries the trip touches, and whether you would rather count gigabytes or not think about them at all

The plan shapes answer different questions. Country, Regional and Global describe where a plan works. Time-Based and Unlimited describe how much you get. Every plan is one of each, so you are really making two choices.

    First: Where

    Your TripTake
One country, there and backCountry Plan
Several countries in one regionRegional Plan
    More than one continentGlobal Plan
One country plus one long layoverCountry Plan, and check the layover separately

    Then: How Much

    How You Use a PhoneTake
Maps, messaging, the odd photo uploadTime-Based, a small size
Normal use plus social media and musicTime-Based, a middle size
Video calls most days, or a tethered laptopUnlimited
A long stay where estimating is guessworkUnlimited

If the two sizes either side of your guess are close in price, take the larger one. Running out abroad costs more attention than a slightly bigger plan costs money — and topping up is always possible if you would rather start small.

Every destination page shows the plans side by side with the data, the validity and the price in your own currency, so the comparison is on one screen rather than spread across tabs. Browse destinations to see the options for yours.

The one choice that is hard to undo is coverage. A Country Plan cannot be widened after purchase — if the itinerary might grow, a Regional Plan bought up front is cheaper than a second plan bought in a hurry
