What Is an Unlimited Data Plan?

An Unlimited Plan has no total data limit for the trip — you get a generous allowance of full-speed data every day, and the connection keeps working after it, at a lower speed, until the next daily reset

It is built for people who do not want to count. Rather than one pot of data for the whole trip, you get a fresh full-speed allowance each day, and running past it slows the connection rather than stopping it.

    How a Day Works

    1. The day begins with your full-speed allowance restored
    2. You browse, stream, navigate and tether as normal
    3. If you use the whole allowance, the connection continues at a reduced speed
    4. Twenty-four hours later, full speed returns automatically

Reduced speed still carries messaging, maps, email and web pages. What it will not carry comfortably is high-definition video and large downloads. Nothing disconnects, and nothing extra is charged.

    Who It Suits

    Good Fit

    • Long trips where estimating data is guesswork
    • Working remotely, with calls most days
    • Sharing the connection with a laptop or a travelling companion
    • Anyone who would rather not watch a counter

    Poor Fit

    • A short trip with light use — a small Time-Based Plan costs less
    • Anyone expecting no speed management at all

The daily full-speed allowance is set by the local network and differs by destination, so it is shown on the plan itself rather than being one figure everywhere. Read it before buying — see Is an Unlimited Plan Really Unlimited?
